Should You Use Twitter to Help You Find Work at Home Jobs?

If the number of people already using Twitter to do just that is anything to go by, the answer is a resounding yes. But there is something worth noting here that every potential tweeter should think about before tweeting in 140 characters or less.

The worst thing you can do is to pile in, start following countless different people and ask them all if they have any work at home positions available or anything that needs doing that they would pay you for. What does this sound like to you? To many people it sounds quite desperate which of course is exactly what it is.

The key to solving this problem and finding the kind of contacts you are looking for on Twitter is to go about the task in a different way. Instead of asking people if they have work available, why not start connecting with them first? If you ask them straight out it is akin to being sold something when you aren’t looking to buy anything. This is how other people will view your efforts, and you won’t get very far as a result.

The best way to start is by focusing on your interests when it comes to working from home. You must know what it is you want to do otherwise you won’t be able to focus in on the people who could help you. For instance if you want to write web pages and articles, you should focus on people who want to develop their existing websites. If you want to be a photographer you need to zoom in on people who are looking for photos to use on their websites and in other ways as well. This provides you with your starting point.

Once this is done, you can set up your mini bio and tweets to appeal to this kind of market. Your tweets can therefore be relevant to your target market and also to your skills, without being overly promotional at the same time.

From this point on you should look for people to follow who may be interested in eventually developing a working relationship with you. As you follow people you will see some will start following you back. Thank them for doing so and take every opportunity to actually engage in conversation and take part in discussions on relevant topics.

Another good bet is to search Twitter for jobs relating to your area of interest and expertise. The more people you have following you and the more active you are on the site, the more you will find it possible to snag jobs in this way. Don’t expect it to happen every day but look for potential job leads regularly so you have a better chance of getting one or two when they do arise.

Twitter has helped many people find the jobs they were looking for. But as you can see you need to go about things in just the right way.
