If you wear prescription eye-wear you should definitely try shopping for contact lenses online. When you purchase contacts from your optometrist you might miss out on some savings that could be found online. Some doctors may not want to give out your prescription; so it is important that you know your business when it comes to this matter. You have the legal right to a copy of your own medical records. This includes a paper copy of any contact lens prescription. That being said, there are two primary reasons you should research internet contact purchases.
First, the convenience should be considered. If you are a wearer of contacts, and the time has come for a new pair, you will have to travel to see your eye doctor. If you wear a specialty lens (perhaps for an Astigmatism), your vision care specialist may not currently have them in stock. If this is the case, they will need to be ordered and you will have to wait. Ordering your lenses online cuts out a trip to see the doctor, saves time, and saves you from the cost of fuel in the car.
The second main reason that you should research buying from your computer is that money that you could save on the lenses themselves. Some companies offer discounts simply for ordering online. Others give deals to repeat buyers. No matter if you wear Toric, Vial, Disposables or Color, you may find a great deal of savings to be had by using your computer for purchases.
Be sure to have your prescription information handy when ordering. As noted above, you have the right to a copy of the prescription and all you need to do is make the request of your eye specialist. By law, online contact lens companies do require your prescription. The company that you order from will ask for the name and telephone number of your optometrist. Enter the information over the computer and they will verify the prescription.
Look for the more well-known or more advertised online distributors so that you do not get taken advantage of. Nobody wants to pay hard-earned money for a product that never arrives. Nor do you want lenses that are beyond the use date. Remember that there are plenty of legitimate distributors to choose from.
Compare prices to make sure that you are getting the best deal. Check to see if returns or exchanges are allowed. If your lenses arrive and have accidentally been damaged in shipping, they may no longer be sterile. Steer away from any company that does not offer returns. This may be a sign of an illegal operation.
For those of you with vision insurance, keep in mind that full or partial payment for your lenses may be obtained. Keep your ordering information so that you may send your insurer any requested information for reimbursement.
Vision can change over time and with age. Some of us develop problems that can be cause by such simple things as rubbing your eyes too much. For these reasons it is wise to visit your optometrist once a year. This will ensure that your prescription has not changed and that new vision problems have not occurred. But between those needed (and often required) doctor visits, it is perfectly safe (and convenient) to opt for shopping for contact lenses online.
