Little Fockers Tackles New Themes

After watching Little Fockers, it is apparent that the film introduces some new themes that people rarely think about. Not only that, it tries to turn these ideas into a new great comedy.

As people grow older they know the realistic possibilities of Divorce and Death. However, often ignore these possibilities because nobody wants to think about them as they are negative. Well, if one decides to watch Little Fockers online, they will be reminded of these ideas, but in a comedy way.

Little Fockers indeed does talk about divorce and death. The entire film deals with the difficulties a family faces, especially between a father or mother and their in-laws. In the movie, tension builds between Gaylord Focker and his father-in-law, Jack. This tension explodes (in a comical way) and spreads between Gaylord and his wife, Pamela. As tension increases and Focker struggles to manage his in-laws, immediate family, and work the option of divorce sprouts. Not only that, the subject of death arises with Jack’s old age as he begins to have health problems.

The reason the whole death and divorce themes seem unusual for the Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, and Little Fockers, series is because it is a more serious issue than what the series is use to. This entire series has before emphasized the humour in the differences between a father and mother and each other’s in-laws. Death and divorce on the other hand are often seen as a “touchy” subject and can be offensive, if not insulting, to some people. Hopefully the viewers of this film see the humour in these themes and it doesn’t come across as offensive.

As with Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, Little Fockers is starring Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, and Owen Wilson. Dustin Hoffman has returned to play Gaylord “Greg” Focker’s (Ben Stiller) father. If the movie were to come across as offensive, it could damage the reputations of these well established actors and actresses. Not only that, it could damage the reputations of the entire series, affecting future sales for any three of the movies. Regardless of what happens, one can conclude that this is a new direction for the Fockers. Hopefully the viewers will take it lightly, and see through the negative themes and focus on the humour. This is the 21st century anyways and many do not see these themes and hindering the film’s reputation.

The movie is set for premier on Dec. 23, 2010, just in time for the long Christmas weekend. Even though the movie talks about death and divorce, it is definitely not rated R. The humour, however, may be understood by an older audience. If you can’t make it to the theatres on opening weekend, you could always watch Little Fockers online. Not to worry though, because you will have the entire Christmas holidays to watch the film. If you have recently filed for a divorce, maybe you should watch Little Fockers as it will probably give you a few good chuckles. Hope you get the chance to critic this movie!
